Tooth Ache

Sitting at my desk all inspired and ready to write the first brilliant sentence of the day, when I'm distracted by some sort of machine running upstairs which sounds a lot like a dentist's drill. And now my tooth hurts.

I'm thinking about good books and far away places and the money each thought takes to make reality. I'm thinking on clever lines and sharp wit; happy instances and sad; what matters and what doesn't but how each ironically requires really good words in really articulate fashion to be properly expressed.

Zero Competition

The good thing about being in the novel-writing business is that competition doesn't really exist. A book lover won't choose one book that has piqued curiosity over another--they will simply buy both.

Sometimes I feel so itchy, like everything underneath my skin is too large and I need to run or stretch it out. Then I think of a hand--yours--on my back and I convince myself into calm.
